Uniontown started out as a town called Francesburg or Francisburg and was established in 1819. An adjoining town, Locust Port was established in 1839. A quarrel developed between two men from the towns, William David and Isham Bridges. A move to avoid a duel was made and proved successful, resulting in the establishment of Uniontown by an act of the Kentucky General Assembly in 1839-1840.
