DogStray animals brought into the shelter are held for a 5-day owner claim period. This allows time for owners to be reunited with their pets. Union County Animal Control recommends tagging and/or microchipping your pets so owner claim can occur quickly. Animals are scanned for microchips and checked for county dog tags and ID tags at the facility upon intake. We suggest calling or visiting the facility to look for your pet during normal business hours. Owners are encouraged to complete a lost pet report with Animal Control if your pet becomes lost. Stray and lost animals can be viewed here.

Due to the number of animals received, the shelter is unable to keep them forever so their time is limited. Once the stray hold ends, the animals are placed up for adoption or rescue. The public is encouraged to visit the facility during normal operating hours if interested in adopting. Foster-to-adopt is encouraged as this helps the animals get into a home-based environment and helps families get a better idea if the animal will be a good addition. Contact the shelter directly for more information on fostering or foster-to-adopt.

Cat3 The majority of animals that enter Union County Animal Control are rehomed through no-kill shelter partners, which provides a greater opportunity for animals to find the right home. Animals from Union County have moved all over the country to find new forever homes, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Missouri, Tennessee, Indiana, and many other states. Maggie, a black shepherd, found her new home in Arizona while Snoopy, an Aussie, enjoys the Florida sunshine. We strive to maintain good relationships with our reputable no-kill rescue partners and help the unwanted pets from our county have the best chance possible.
