After reviewing 2020 US Census data, changes were made to the Union County Magisterial map to ensure each magistrate represents (within +/- 5%) an equal amount of people. These changes went into effect November 8, 2023. Click here to view the Magisterial, Precinct and School Board maps.

Effective January 2, 2024, the Union County Board of Elections consolidated the voting precincts in Union County from 16 to 12. Traditionally, the precinct in which you live determined where you vote but that is no longer the case in Union County. A: If you are working on Election Day, you may be entitled to a maximum of four consecutive hours off from work in order to vote or cast an absentee ballot if you make a request for time off with your employer.

**Your employer may specify the hours you may take leave to cast a ballot.

A: Kentucky conducts political party primaries before each General Election. In Primary Elections, voters may only vote for candidates of their same political affiliation and non-partisan candidates. In General Elections, voters may choose to vote for candidates of any party.

A: All voters must produce identification at the polling place.  A Kentucky driver's license or state issued ID are preferred because they have a barcode and are able to be scanned.

A: Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time. If you are in line at 6:00 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

A: Effective May 2022, regardless of residence, if you are a registered voter in Union County you can vote at one of the following locations:

• Union County Senior Center in Morganfield
• Waverly KC Hall

A: No. Once you have registered to vote, you do not have to re-register for each election. Re-registration is only necessary if you have moved or legally changed your name.

A: State law allows for pre-registration at 17-years-of-age, but you must be 18-years-of-age on or before the next General Election Day to vote. If you are 17 and will be 18 on the next General Election, you may vote in the Primary Election.

A: Yes. Updating your registration is necessary if you have moved or legally changed your name. You can make updates to your registration online or by submitting a voter registration application by mail or in person.

A: No. Once the voter registration deadline has passed, the voter registration rolls are frozen until after the next election.

Requirements

You may vote absentee in person at the Union County Clerk's Office, during the in-office absentee voting period from the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., if you are:

• A voter who due to age, disability, or illness will be unable to go to the polls on election day.
• A voter who will be outside the county on election day.
• A student who temporarily resides outside the county in which he/she is registered who will be out of the county on election day.
• A voter who is a member of the Armed Forces or a dependent of a member of the Armed Forces and will be out of the county on election day.
• A voter who is a member of the Armed Forces who will be confined to a base within the county on election day and who learns of that confinement within seven days or less of the election.
• A voter who is a U.S. citizen residing overseas and will be out of the county on election day.
• A voter or spouse of a voter who has surgery scheduled that will require hospitalization on election day.
• A woman in her last trimester of pregnancy.

Requirements

Voters unable to get to the polls on Election Day or Early Voting days are eligible to vote by paper absentee ballot IF they meet one of the following requirements:

• A voter who due to age, disability, or illness will be unable to go to the polls on election day.
• A student who temporarily resides outside the county in which he/she is registered to vote. The ballot must be mailed to the voter out of county.
• A voter who temporarily resides outside the state but who is still eligible to vote in this state (this includes vacationers). The ballot must be mailed to the voter out of state.
• A voter who is incarcerated in jail who has been charged with a crime but has yet to be convicted of the crime.
• A voter whose employment location requires him/her to be absent from the county on election day and all hours and days absentee voting by machine is conducted in the Clerk's Office.
• Military personnel confined to a military base on election day.
• Covered Voters as defined in KRS 117A.010 - Union County voters who are Members of the Armed Forces and their dependents who will be out of the county on election day and voters residing overseas (temporarily or permanently).
• A voter who is a participant in the Office of the Secretary of State's address confidentiality program.

 How to Apply and Return a Mail-In Ballot

When the online portal is open, you may request a mail-in absentee paper ballot at GoVote.Ky.gov. If you do not have access to the internet, please call (270) 389-1334 for assistance.

The paper ballot will be mailed to the voter within 3 business days after submitting an application through the online portal. Ballot must be returned by 6:00 pm on Election Day via mail or dropped off in the secure drop-off box located at the Courthouse, right outside the County Clerk's Office.
